1. QBW or Company file is damaged. Make a portable backup file

3. Opening a portable file (.qbm) without opening QuickBooks
4. You have altered, or mistakenly typed Extension for QuickBooks file
5. Trying to save a QuickBooks Macintosh file using QuickBooks for Windows
6. Company file is virus infected
What are the fixes for the error:
1. In case the error message is linked to file-extension of Company file, then consider changing the File extension and saving the Company file with a proper extension
2. Verify that the company File is opening on another device
3. Re-install QuickBooks if the File is not up-to-date
4. Save ‘QuickBooks for Macintosh’ in Mac-system and not a Windows-based system and vice versa
5. Use a proper antivirus update before opening the Company file

Method 1: Restore from Backup

Step 1: Visit QuickBooks and click on file. Next tap on Open or Restore Company
Step 2: Apply Restore a backup copy and tap on Next
Step 3: Now, choose Local Backup and then click on Next button
Step 4: Select the location of Company file backup from the Look-In drop-down menu
Step 5: Press the backup it should be available with .qbb extension
Step 6: Tap on Open followed by Next button
Step 7: Visit Save-in drop down menu and browse for a preferred location to restore Backup file
Step 8: In the File-name field, type a new Company Filename and check that Save as filed should automatically save the restored file in .qbw format
Step 9: Click on Yes
Step 10: Type YES to confirm the overwrite process

Method 2: Make a New QuickBooks Desktop file from Scratch
Step 1: Open QuickBooks Desktop
Step 2: On the No Company Open window, make a new Company
Step 3: Visit QuickBooks Setup Window and fill-in the required information
Step 4: Click on Create Company
Step 5: Start working by creating customers, chart of account and services, etc
